Help and guides
Step-by-step guides for what people use CryptoMesh VPN for, and fixes for common problems.
Get started
- Install CryptoMesh VPN on your phone or computer and sign in with the same account on each device.
- Turn on your private network in the app. Each signed-in device appears in the console under Machines.
- For a PiKVM, router or Linux server, use Add device in the console and run the command it shows.
Reach your home devices
- Install the app on a computer at home, or add a TouchKVM, PiKVM or Linux gateway with Add device.
- Share your home network from that gateway, then open your home devices from anywhere.
Send files between your devices
- Open Network, choose one of your own devices and select Send file. On a phone, pick the file in the system picker.
- The other device keeps the file in its inbox until you choose Save or Discard. Nothing is saved without you.
- Files go only between devices signed in to your account, over the encrypted network. Each file can be up to 4 GB.
Share a device with someone
- In the console, open a machine's menu and choose Share machine, then send the link to one person.
- They reach only that device. You can end the share at any time on the Sharing page.
Use an exit node
- An exit node sends your internet traffic through another device, for example your home computer while you travel.
- Offer a computer as an exit node in its Settings, then choose it as the exit on your other devices.
Publish a web app to your own devices
- On a Windows or Linux computer, open Network and choose Publish a service, then enter the local address of the app.
- Today a service can be published only from a Windows or Linux computer; Mac, iPhone and Android cannot publish yet.
- Choose who can open it before you publish. It is never published to your local network.
Publish a service to the internet
- Public links are off until they are turned on for your account. Check the Features page in the console.
- Today a service can be published only from a Windows or Linux computer; Mac, iPhone and Android cannot publish yet.
- In the app on the computer, publish the service as Public on the internet. Then create its public link in the console.
- Anyone with the address can open it, so protect the app with its own sign-in. Turn the link off in the console at any time; it stops within seconds.
Run a network for a team
- Create an organization in the console, invite people and give each person a role.
- The organization's policy decides who can reach which devices. Organizations appear in the console when they are available for your account.
The app does not connect
- Check that the device is online and signed in to the same account as your other devices.
- Open Connection diagnostics in the app's settings and follow what it suggests.
- Turn the private network off and on again. If it still fails, contact support with the diagnostics summary.
A device shows offline
- The device may be asleep, shut down or signed out. Wake it and open the app.
- The console shows when each device was last seen. Remove a device you no longer use.
A file did not arrive
- Both devices must be connected and signed in to the same account. Files cannot be sent to tagged devices or other accounts.
- Check the receiving device's inbox. If it is out of space, free some space and send the file again.
A published service does not open
- Make sure the app is running on the computer at the address you published, and that the computer is connected.
- For a public link, the service must be published as Public in the app and its link must be on in the console.
A feature is missing
- Some features are turned on gradually. The Features page in the console lists what is on for your account and why.
- Organizations, API access and app connectors appear only when organizations are available.
